Learning to fly with Airunit ...
The experienced instructors of Flightschool Airunit train you from A to Z and guide you through the entire process for obtaining the license of a private pilot.
Because the basic training in aviation is so important and decisive for your flight safety and your later commercial aspirations, we attach great importance to all aspects of flying: theoretical knowledge, practical flying skills, knowledge of English, but also the correct personal attitude.
The instruction is done with a four-seater, a Robin DR300 / 125.
After obtaining the flight permit, the pilot can therefore take 3 passengers without further training.
Private pilot training
Together with the instructor you will learn step by step the aircraft controls: taxiing, taking off, landing, navigation, flight planning, in short, everything you need to know to fly an aircraft independently. We use a schedule in which your exercises are recorded so that we know perfectly which part we can practice at the next lesson. Before the flight, the exercises are discussed on the ground. A debriefing follows upon return.
The first phase of the training takes place in dual control, ie with the instructor on board. One discovers and learns the operation of the rudders, the limits of use of the aircraft, take-off and landing. After approximately 12 to 15 flying hours in dual control, you are ready to fly alone for the very first time, albeit under the responsibility of the instructor. This is called the 'first solo flight'. It's a short flight, but an unforgettable experience for everyone. This gives a real kick!
After that, the remainder of the training is completed up to your full pilot's license.
Navigation flights are started. These are flights outside the familiar environment of the airport. People learn to move from one airport to another. During these navigation flights, practice is also taken in flying at low speed, flying certain figures that must be known for the practical exam and dealing with emergencies that may arise in flight.
Theoretical training
Airunit offers you the opportunity to follow these in both French and Dutch. In principle, this takes place in another Flemish or Walloon DTO or ATO, the student pilot is free to choose one himself in consultation with the head of training.
Our own pilots can of course always help you with this learning material.
The theoretical training consists of 9 subjects:
1. General knowledge of an aircraft
2. Flight performance and planning
3. Flight principles
4. Meteorology
5. Navigation
6. Aviation regulations and ATC procedures
7. Operational procedures
8. Communication
9. Human performance and limitations.
The theoretical exam takes place in Brussels at the Directorate General of Aviation (BCAA).

Practical training
It is recommended to follow the practice in parallel with the theory. The practical exam must be passed within two years of passing the theoretical exam. In principle, the practical exam can already be taken after 45 hours of flight, but in practice we find that approximately 60 hours are needed to prepare someone properly.
A standard flight takes about 60 minutes, navigation flights can take 2 to 3 hours. The different stages are:
1. the basic phase where one learns to fly straight, horizontal, climbing and descending and turns
2. the pre-solo phase where one learns to take off and land
3. the first solo flight
4. the advanced phase where the focus is on emergency landings and steep turns
5.the navigation phase where one is going to land at other airports in Belgium or abroad,
this flight can take up to 3 hours, round trip
6. radio navigation and basic instrument flight techniques.
Preparation
External control of the aircraft (the walkaround): fuel, oil level, tires, ...
Internal control of the aircraft (the checks): instruments, controls, radio, ...
Meteo, flight plan and weight & balance.
Costs associated with the training
Theory
There is no annual contribution to Airunit.
As determined by the ATO / DTO where the theory lessons are taken.
Practice
Per flight hour (for renting the plane): 150 euros (VAT included).
Due to the unstable prices of oil, we are forced to adjust the rental price of the Robin.
Per flight hour (for the instruction): to be determined by the instructor.
When you pass your flight training and obtain your PPL you will receive 5 free flights hours.
The following costs are not included in the price of the training:
The initial medical examination, the English exam, the theoretical and practical exam, the purchase of flying equipment (such as a headset, a navigation chart and computer, ...), the flight permit and the landing fees.
Student pilot conditions
Any candidate wishing to take a course must undergo a medical examination by a doctor recognized by the BCAA
• at the earliest before the start of the training
• at the latest before the first solo flight
There is no minimum age for following the training, but one must be of
• 16 years old to make a first solo flight
• 17 years old to take his practical exam
Every minor must submit a parental authorization.
